The Spanish people know what they did. They threw out Aznar. Let al Qaeda members think what they want to think I have sympathy for the plight of the Spanish voters. I try to put myself in their place. I am long on record here as disapproving of just about everything that Bush has done in his presidency. I would vote for anybody over Bush. But wait. What if we had a similar attack here right before the election. What would I do? The situations are similar enough. The Democrats are viewed as soft on terror although, as you said about the Spanish Socialists, I think that they are not soft, just different in their approach. Nonetheless, al Qaeda would view an abrupt shift in the US vote producing a win for the Democratic candidate as a victory. So, do I change my vote to Bush to avoid that? Do I rally around the president in his war on al Qaeda, which I consider to have been ham-handed and ill-conceived? It's all well and good for me to vote for my choice for my own reasons and not worry about al Qaeda. I would know what I did. But... This is why I have not criticized the Spanish voters but rather the Socialist PM for letting al Qaeda write his acceptance speech. I wouldn't have wanted to be in their place.
