... local moroccans living in spain who may not have been happy about the way they have been treated

"I doubt it. If there is any tension it is a fraction of the one observed between Israelis and Palestinians."

and so was african american tension in the sixties but violence broke out. When folks live in ghettos and are not granted citizenship and work at menial tasks with no hope of advancement for themselves and their families, violence is likely to occur. In the US next gen always seems to do better than the last as each minority trudges toward the middle class. I may be wrong but i get the feeling that things are quite different in europe. I had heard that a spanish mob had attacked arabs living there, just a year ago. I have heard about german skinhead attacks against turks or kurds? And france bans the scarf for muslim girls in school, no? mike

Jochen: What was your source for the number of US refugees accepted in 2002?

I have called Senators offices to try to determine the actual numbers, and find that all numbers are actually signed by Executive Order for each event.

The Senators office staff said they didn't have those numbers and didn't know how any of us could find them (this was a few years ago about 1998 or so).

They did tell me that there were about 500,000 LEGAL immigrants that were to come in per year (except for the 1996 and 2000 election years that Clinton-Gore wanted to extend that number to 1,000,000+ per year), and then both offices I called said that they estimated there were about 5-8 times the number of refugees versus the legal immigrants.....
