ild, this is the part I disagree with. Trotsky doesn't mention what he would have done to IMMEDIATELY help all of the people who were suddenly impoverished. If you are a politician, first you feed your people, then you work at correcting economic imbalances. You have to have live, productive people when the turnaround takes place. FDR made a lot of errors. Basically, he was throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the Depression and a lot of it didn't work longer term. But nearly all of it provided very needed short term positives. Unlike Nero, he didn't fiddle while the United States burned.
