Re: Just a couple of bucks invested on women's education and problem solved.

It's so easy to wave the magic wand here in cyberspace.

I have a friend who is just back from a trip to Nicaragua. He's a do-gooder and has been going there for years. He regretted that he didn't have a camera as his group was passing through a barrio on the outskirts of Managua. There, he came upon a group of four children playing in their "yard" wearing cardboard for clothing.

While that woman clearly would be helped by lessons in contraception and self-assertiveness, there is a pervasive culture of "Machismo" that must be tamed and made to become more sensible if ever there is to be progress made on bringing too many unaffordable offspring into this world.

Currently there is a fight brewing in the largest environmental group in the U.S. Three candidates for the Board of Directors, including former Gov. Richard Lamm of Colorado, are running on a platform of closing the borders to illegal immigrants. The reasoning is that the envirnment cannot handle all the excess breeding that is going on in the "South" and that El Norte should not be the dumping ground for stupid breeding practices among the superstitious Catholics who have a dreadfully out-of-date idea about birth control and the nature of life on earth.

I agree with Governor Lamm. Just because Latin America is suffering from a self-inflicted population bomb does not mean that the U.S.A. should become the dumping ground for all the excess humans being bred today.
