I do not take as gospel those who have an animus against the security forces of Britain and the United States, insofar as it easy to exaggerate mistreatment. I also do not think that all forms of coercive interrogation are wrong under the circumstances. However, it does seem worth investigating whether the treatment was overboard.

I am concerned about the right of appeal, less so about other features of the tribunals. I agree that public trials are preferable if they do not compromise security, but there is some reason to hold onto the option of secrecy. That, of course, is the very case where judicial review of transcripts is most important, however. So I am troubled.......
