All rights reserved Lybia had been trying to make nice for years already...Ghaddaffi has been on a mellowing out trip ever since the Lockerbie affair. what happened in Spain appears to have required a LOT of sophistication btw., since reportedly huge amounts of relatively bulky explosives had been attached to the RIGHT trains overnight while they were serviced. it wasn't a case of just walking in with a belt bomb strapped around the waist ( the attackers had an astounding amount of accurate intelligence and access to sensitive sites at their disposal ) . the 'why hasn't there been an attack since 9-11' question is also fallaciously implying a wrong conclusion. worldwide, the number of islamist fundamentalist terror attacks ( or rather, attacks ascribed to the fundamentalists ) SINCE 9-11 has increased vastly. every other month huge bomb blasts devastate lives and property , not in the US, but in countries perceived to be allied with the US. in Iraq itself, the number an intensity of both internecine attacks and attacks on the occupation forces is a phenomenon that hasn't been in evidence since the British occupation of the 1920's. so it is not a stretch to state that globally, security has enormously deteriorated since the invasion of Iraq. even on a nation-state basis, the so-called 'rogues' like Iran and North Korea are obviously hell-bent now to acquire WMD potential as soon as possible in order to be able to counter any further neo-con hatched invasion plans. lastly, every single Western bureaucracy purportedly engaged in 'protecting' us predicts that the next attack is 'inevitable' anyway. unwittingly, they are thereby putting the success of the 'war on terror' in stark perspective.
