But it sounds like the explosives were obtained in Spain through Spanish sources..

However, there was considerable discussion about the 1.6 tonnes of explosives confiscated from the ETA on March 8th.

And several ETA members were captured with backpacks full of explosives back in December:

But Palacio pointed to "the arrest of two ETA suspects on Christmas Eve with back-packs filled with the same type of explosives in another station ... and the interception of a small van with 500kg of explosives 10 days ago with a map of the part of Madrid where the attack took place."

These kinds of "lies" would be hard to hide, given the number of experts who would be analyzing the evidence.

Let alone intentionally lying about the facts.
