Mish, A rising currency is certainly bullish for an ETF (or closed end fund, but less so due to discounts) quoted in Clownbucks. The stock prices x the conversion rate will produce a higher index price if the conversion rate is better and the stocks are flat to up.

in recent months the Nikkei and the yen have usually moved in opposite directions. A higher yen is seen as a big problem for Japan exporters. Why do you think the BOJ has tried so hard to depress the yen?
