For quite some time, the Wingers on SI used a simple group attack screaming process to bombard the former adminstrator and owner, SI Jeff, with complaints about many progressives on SI with whom they "disagreed." During that period, some, notably "Lazarus Long," became highly "skilled" in collecting vast "archives" of posts that could be "called into use" in an attempt, when posted, to encourage other SI members to demand that "action be taken" to punish these people for "TOU violations," with the ultimate goal being termination of the progressives' accounts. I'm guessing that SI Jeff had a lot more on his mind than wanting to even serve in such a "chaperon," policing role, and that he reacted accordingly. These same Wingers grew smugly confident that, when they decided that someone "had to go," they had the power to "facititate it." Their complacency has evolved to such an extent that entire threads were established with the express purpose of ridiculing, by name, other SI posters. I've been bringing the issue of starting and maintaining such "ridicule" threads recently to the attention of SI Administration recently on the "Welcome to SI" thread. Just tonight, SI Dave has posted there a detailed description of how the various threads on SI are now being orgainzed, prioritized and administrated. I think that, net-net, the Wingers have lost some of their ability to target individual progressives for highly visible group ridicule. We'll see how well they adapt to losing their attitudes about sharing this space with people "they don't like." -g "lb"
