If they can't go to Mecca, they're pretty much damned.

But if you put yourself in their sandals, with the way they view Mecca, the Vatican is actually a juicy target. Nonetheless, my bookie has odds on this year's Olympics in Athens. If I were a terrorist.........

"Muslims appear to revere Mecca in a way that seems idolatrous to me, especially the activities with
the various objects on the ground.

Rome, on the other hand, is merely the home of the Catholic Church due to tradition. The loss of the
Vatican, and Jerusalem, and Bethlehem, would only be the loss of physical objects, which are by their
nature impermanent. "

I think that quite a few people, whether Catholic or not, would not view the destruction of thousands of years of cultural heritage in the Vatican in such a detached manner. Though it does sound rather Gallic, with a shrug of the shoulders. "Ah well...c'est la vie, n'est pas?"
