I think GE _does_ make many (most?) of their products in-house.

I think the "subscription" model has some problems. Not all potential subscribers are interested in doing business that way, and those who are have been pretty much able to do so all along via contracts with service providers and leasing. Customers can detect attempts to turn them into cash cows.

Really? Anybody have any more details on this?

My post was only addressing software. So for Sun this would be JDS and JES I guess. I realized after I posted that the Chinese software deal was an OEM. But I never got the details on that one.
