i wonder why they mention the complete sector all the time vs selected types of business within the sector.

Pam, I wouldn't get too excited about the semiconductor index and SNDK. The don't go in tandem. If you superimpose charts of the two, for example, from Sept 03 to Nov 03 SNDK out performed the index by 30%. Then from early Nov 03 to mid Dec 03, SNDK under performed the SOX by 40%.

So really looking at the semiconductor index for guidance with Sandisk is pure folly, a real waste of time.
