I think that lies are told by both parties, but the way that they are told is different. Democrats lie by omission or by mistake more often. Yes some do lie by design too, like Johnson's Gulf of Tonkin lie. But Republicans lie by design daily.

I'll never forget Nixon's big lie, "I'm not a crook"

You see he really believed he was not a crook, because what he did was to foster the chances of the republicans to win an election. That alone makes what he did "right", and there fore it was not a "crime". So Nixon, in his heart of hearts thought he was not a criminal, and there fore by saying "I'm not a crook" he really believed his own lie!

You see how the republican mind works?
