Frankly, I am amazed that there has been no investigation into this. I remember watching the news program live on TV and shouting "Get those people out of there! Buildings will collapse!" and people in Stars & Bars (that's the texmex resto I was passing in front of what I heard the commotion and went in there to watch the TV) saying "Naaah! Those buildings are strong!". We all know what happened next....
GAWDALMIGHTY! I don't remember hearing that. If that happened, yes, the people responsible should be prosecuted. If nothing else, that HAS to be a violation of criminal sections of the Fire Code.

Asbestos doesn't really help in this case because you are trying to prevent the transmission of heat to the steel structure, rather than prevent something from catching fire.
That's exactly what asbestos does- -prevents transmission of heat. It is a poor heat conductor. Concrete has a thermal conductivity of 1.4 watts/m^3, whereas spun glass (asbestos, essentially) has only 0.04 watts/m^3 conductivity- -much better. Considering that its weight is also much less, it is by far the better choice (although it can end up being more expensive). It does have those NASTY effects on human lungs, though, which is why it is now banned.

(NOTE: If you look in other sources, you may find other numbers. And other units are common. If you find a source that lists both asbestos/spun glass and concrete/cement, you will find that asbestos is a poorer thermal conductor. This sort of variation can drive engineers crazy.)

That is not to say, of course, I have much good to say about Bush.
No problem. We take account of mental infirmities. :-)

Still, I don't believe at all that he was "the mastermind behind 9/11 attacks", since my I cannot see him capable of carrying out long term planning of simultaneous terrorist attacks. Nor chewing gum while walking down the street, for that matter -g-
I'll tell him to shake hands with you after we take Monaco. :-)
