You said that those who lose their jobs have mediocre skills. If I told you, after you lost your job, or knew many friends that did - that you must be a mediocre teacher - I think you would resent that. If you husband is a software engineer, then this could happen to him too. If you think he is too skilled, then you are incorrect. With your views on this - I am surprised you are both not Bush supporters. All I can say is that you will have to see it happen to your own husband, and yourself, or many of your close friends to change your mind. It is like how Reagan was against any gun control - until he was shot. He then changed his tune. What is amazing to me is how anyone like you, that is an intelligent person, could just blow off the entire issue - and attribute it to mediocre people or skills.
