China Life, the Hong Kong and New York-listed arm of the mainland's largest insurer, filed a statement on Thursday saying it expected to face more class action lawsuits after a US law firm initiated one on behalf of investors who bought its shares soon after its $3.4bn international IPO last December.

The Beijing-based company, which was created in 2003 as a listing vehicle of China Life group, was responding to a complaint which alleged that the company and individual senior managers had violated US securities regulations by failing to disclose ahead of its listing the details of a state investigation into the original group's accounts.

Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynews & Lerach (Milberg Weiss), one of the law firms which launched a successful claim in 2002 against Netease, another New York-listed Chinese company, filed the class action in New York on Wednesday.
