Its possible that the best thing that could happen is a tax increase. You need a government - the government needs money to stay healthy.

Something I recnetly read was that someone pointed out that democracy is doomed to failure because the people will always vote for someone who promises to give them the most rather than do whats best for the country. I'd bet that even if the deficit was three times larger the republicans would be talking a tax cut. Deficits obviously don't matter to Republicans - didn't matter to Argentina either - till it did.
