Thanks. American patriotism is not bloodthirsty. But it does involve a broad trust in American institutions, and a reluctance to second guess those in charge of intelligence and the military when they have difficult, dangerous jobs that we rely upon for our well- being. Obviously, a lot depends upon what one thinks of the principals involved in decision making, and, obviously, there is the recognition that there can be mistakes. But a cynical disregard of our institutions does not sit well with most Americans. Portraying the ordinary citizen as some bloodthirsty supporter of militarism is not only ludicrously inaccurate, it is offensive..........
