As a practical matter, letters of reference to the Judge do little good.

The judge is bound by the sentencing guidelines, which call for some time of confinement. She might get a split sentence, where part of the time is served in a halfway house or home detention, but a portion of it will have to be served in a correctional institution.

The other thing is, she insists to this day she did nothing wrong. One consideration the Judge can take into account in sentencing is acceptance of responsibility. In Martha's case, there is no acceptance of responsibility.
