Of course, the Franco phone Swiss look down slighlty on the German Swiss and both look down a lot on the Italian Swiss...

Hi elmat,

When I toured Switzerland I was struck by the architecture, or lack thereof. It seemed that most buildings in the cities were modeled on military bunkers and pillboxes. Concrete was de rigeur except in the alpine districts which maintained a bit more charm.

Re: This explains a surprisingly undemocratic habit in daily life of subordinating the needs and rights of the individual to those of companies, special-interest groups and other members of the establishment.

While I was in Zurich, my host suggested I make a study of the faces of pensioners. He suggested a dour and downtrodden breed. He pointed out that most were living on very pinched and inadequate sums, while a tiny elite of corporate executives took the cream of the wealth of the nation for their own. It was an interesting insight into the nature of the stinginess of world class capitalists and multinational corporations.
