The best they could come up with is longer unemployment insurance?

Nobody has the guts to get out there and lead on Free Trade. Even Clinton would go for installing the normal welfare supports as a palliative. Telling people that "tough love" is the best answer for their problems is political suicide.

I'm surprised by your response. What would you have them do?

Extending unemployment insurance has become a tried and true, minimally statist way to approach the problem--it does some good for the folks affected, doesn't create a permanent entitlement, and doesn't muck up the free market system. I'm surprised that your libertarian self would be asking for more. What's on your mind?
