The law prohibits discrimination against federal employees or job applicants on the basis of off-duty conduct that does not affect job performance. It has long been understood that a good employee doing his or her job well could not be fired simply because their supervisor doesn't personally like gays any more than because the supervisor doesn't like, say, Hispanics, or males, or people who are of a different religion than the supervisor.

Because federal employees are working for us and being paid with our taxes, you should object to criteria that are essentially religious in nature and unconnected to job performance, law-abidingness, courtesy to other employees and the public, trustworthiness, reliability etc, being used to fire people who are giving us value for money.
