I used to disagree with that. I believed most of the free market rhetoric. But we are not dealing with countries on par such as Canada or Japan - that also have advanced regulations on labor, the environment, etc.

And - we are not talking about shoes, etc. from China.

We are talking about high value-added jobs, with very high skill levels. And - we are talking about huge wage differentials with India and the US here. I thought I read that the "average" Indian's income is about $ 600 per year.

This is like mixing a 2000 gallon vat of boiling water with water at 33 degrees, and claiming it will somehow all work out at a reasonable temperature. The differences are too extreme not to cause massive disruptions.

Since the US is unwilling to provide help for those displaced due to this policy, and since you actually need a good income here to afford your: home, car, health insurance, and food - I see little choice but to try to intervene in the markets if the disturbance to labor is too much.
