OT -- Empire State Building Re: Again, I am writing this from memory, but from what I recall, the only reason why there was more concrete used in the construction of Empire State Building was to save steel which was in shortage as it was needed for war production - The Empire State Building was completed in 1931, several years before WW II commenced, and even before Hitler rose to power. Concerns about war production had nothing to do with the design specifications. pbs.org
