Ted, The N.Koreans are starving to death. The S. Korean army probably outweighs them by 10 lbs or more per soldier. If NK does anything, it will be to fire missiles, not stage an invasion.

North Korea has no intention of ever firing a missile or letting one soldier cross over the DMZ. But as long as they can convince some people of that myth, they can continue to extract favorable deals to prop up their miserable regime.

And do you think the SKoreans haven't thought of this issue before making their announcement? They don't care. Apparently, sending troops to Iraq is a bigger political liability than worrying what the NKoreans will think.

You have it backwards. South Korea cares much more about North Korea than about Iraq, which is why they never wanted to go in the first place, except to make nice with America. Had they refused from the beginning, or even pulled out before 3/11, it would have been a different story, but the whole Madrid bombing made it look like they're pulling out because of fear. That plus Roh's impeachment makes the whole timing of it all stink.

Of course, I'm sure you think it's all Bush's fault. Many Koreans think the same way, too, but all of their Bush-bashing isn't going to solve one thing, much like their Reagan-bashing of the 80's didn't do squat (though they had much more of a reason to hate Reagan than Bush).

P.S. - One of my wife's friends in Korea had some coworkers who were praising Osama bin Laden just a few weeks after 9/11 happened. Never mind their hatred of America; those idiots never realized that all Osama did was wake a sleeping giant once again.
