We don't actually differ all that much. I happen to agree with you that it's a problem, and I think I said we need to find a way to deal with it. I'm just more interested in a long term solution that will work well for the US on all fronts, and am not as interested in a short term fix if it involves legislation that could get us into international trouble. I AM for better benefits for the unemployed, and longer benefits (we never got to that issue in our exchange).

I think you thought I thought everyone laid off was an idiot. I don't happen to think that. I do think that a majority are probably average- and average people are often fungible people- so they are easily exchanged for counterparts in other countries. That you know excellent people who are also out of a job isn't at vairance with what I said, and I'm sure you DO know people who are excellent and out of work.

So, what do we do that will be a long term solution?
