The talking heads and other pundits on squawk radio had Providence aling with Boston College as the Big East wildcards with the potential to go deep. Uconn and Pitt will make a nice run, at least my picks hope so.

Geez, Pitt has scored only about 1 point per minute with less than 7 to go. This is against the Chads, I mean the Golden Knights, of Central Florida. I wonder if there will be any perfect brackets at ESPN if this one holds.

I was reading somewhere an explanation as to why the Big East teams don't usually do well in the tournament. They said it was because the Big East plays a more physical kind of ball where they get away with things that get called in the tournament thus getting in foul trouble. But, of course, in recent years Syracuse and UConn have gone the distance, so it's not like the Big East doesn't have its moments.

Hi Tom,

The Pacific/Providence game took every perfect entry out of the CBS SportsLine contest except for 2 entries. Those two fell in the later games, perhaps UAB and Washington. Hard to say, as they only update the overall standing after every television segment is completed.

Over on ESPN, 29 out of 32 is the current leading score, and there are 46 of those. I have 28 of 32, so I'm tied for next best score with about maybe 1/2 a million other folks. Who knows???<g>

Don't forget to enter your round 2 picks over on CBS SportsLine if you entered the round-by-round competition...

The Big East led last year's tournament with a .833 winning pct. And they're 8-3 so far this year with 3 teams in the sweet 16, same as the ACC. Not so bad...
