To summarize, briefly, a few of my concerns: 1. He has no experience at all in being in sole leadership command of any level of government, whether town, city, county, or state. We have no idea how he would respond in a government leadership position. 2. His legislative record is replete with nothing of any significance. His most prevalent recent bill sponsorships appear to be designed as pay-offs for special interest contributors. 2. His equivocations and waffling on major policy issues, and his attempts to evade rather than coming out and admitting that he has made policy mistakes, are clearly of record. 4. His statement under sworn testimony before Congress about atrocities allegedly committed by US troops in Vietnam are not only unsubstiantiated, but appear to be outright falsehoods. 5. He has articulated no clear vision for the country, has made no major policy statements about the directions he wants to take the country. His basic campaign in the primaries was "look how bad Dean is, I'm better" and in the major campaign so far "look how bad Bush is, I'm better." I'm not impressed with someone who just runs against others; I want a candidate who stands foursquare for matters of vision and policy. 6. He continues to take the taxpayers money to do a job which he is clearly not doing. It's not as though he's reasonably splitting his time between his responsibilities as a Senator and looking for a new job. He has virtually totally abandoned any attempt to perform his senatorial duties, yet he continues to draw full pay and perks for doing so. The fact that others in the past may have done the same is irrelevant; it's Kerry we're concerned about, and if his excuse for doing wrong things is that other people do wrong things, I'm not the least bit impressed with that defensive argument. Those are a few concerns, for a start. Whether these concerns are overridden by the clear and multiple problems I have with Bush, or whether even with his known problems Bush is better than this unknown element, I hope will become clearer between now and the election.
