You're right. Kerry is lying. Assassination proposals are not something anyone would forget about.

The historian Nicosia is a Kerry supporter and he did Kerry a tremendous(!) favor by bringing the news out now. It's publicly availble info - he got it after all - what are the odds the Bush camp would neglect to bring this out in the fall if he hadn't aired the info now? Also note that Nicosia has had this info for a long time and he could have brought it out earlier when Kerry still had credible Democratic opposition - if he'd done that Kerry would have been gone by now and Edwards would be the Demo candidate.

“I think Senator Kerry better get his story straight on this,” Mr. Nicosia said.

He's right. But to get the story right, Kerry'll have to admit he lied.
