<<We invade ... and occupy an oil-rich Arab country, which was doing nothing to threaten us." >>

In case you have not noticed we are seeing the beginning of a trend in the oil supply demand balance that will have far reaching circumstances.

Since we consume 25% of this increasingly expensive commodity we could not afford to have Saddam attack another oil rich country or retain power to extort us through Iraq's own supply. He managed to interfere with reliable exports from Iran, Kuwait, Iraq ad he threatened SA.

With three strikes against our jugular vein we would be seriously wounded if we left him armed and within striking distance of our oil supply.

Jacob is dreaming of our exit from Iraq, oil production is at prewar levels and increasing. We will never leave the Persian Gulf area in a position where our national security is at risk. Al Qaeda knows full well the power they would wield over us if they could disrupt or control oil flow from the Persian Gulf. It is a fantasy to think we would leave this area to our enemies.

Clarke acknowledges that, "there's a lot of blame to go around, and I probably deserve some blame, too." He said he wrote to National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice on Jan. 24, 2001, asking "urgently" for a Cabinet-level meeting "to deal with the impending al-Qaeda attack." Months later, in April, Clarke met with deputy cabinet secretaries, and the conversation turned to Iraq.

Jan 24, 2001 = Bush has just a day or two been sworn in as President.

April (2001) = Check back and you'll see the China created crisis holding our plane, and the crew.

And you do know that Clarke worked for the Clinton Administration for many years before he came into the Bush Administration, don't you?

Where was he and what was he doing in the years while OBL was setting up 9-11, and what were his recommendations re Iraq during this time? Surely he knew some of what Saddam was doing...didn't he?
