Archimedes - stem cells.

If you are following the politics of stem cells, you will not believe this story!!

abc.net.au

It goes to prove exactly what you are saying - that is that America looses when politics tries to micromanage science! Great points you make!

I think these comments are way off the mark:

the intellectual climate of freedom in our top universities, the flexibility of US corporations to market products, a skilled and diverse labor pool, the ability to hire and fire workers without the onerous demands of labor or the fragility of a single party state, and a political system that can also change when need be (as it will this fall).

our academic system is an open store for foreigners
innovation fruit is a shared concept, part & parcel of the New Economy myth
consumers benefit, corporations do not, as prices decline
computer developments central to technology are used to outsource
technology transfer is immediate to foreign locations
our comparative advantage is being given away
skilled labor pool is being sidestepped by outsourcing
hire/fire workers is mostly firing, from higher health costs, higher wage costs
single party state is just "rob with left hand" or "rob with right hand"
federal deficits rise with both Democrat and GOP president

political system that can change??? DOES NOT EVEN WARRANT A COMMENT, ALMOST LAUGHABLE

your comments seem like from a high school valedictorian, still glowing in idealism, who has not lived and worked in the real world
(age 30 ???)
