CB notwithstanding, there was at least one non-defensive use of a nuclear weapon that made it worth while in my view. But that's a whole different argument.

I actually just tossed in the reference to Iran's plans to go nuclear as "artistic" background.

But now that you mention their relative value as offensive tools, I would agree that they are now worth less than they cost to us, and they certainly didn't help the USSR.

However, I would also suggest that the nuclear calculations performed by dictators (or Islamic radicals, whether nations or terrorists) will likely not be based on the same formulas employed within democratic states.

If you don't believe it... just wait to I become Dictator Supremus.
