""In so many ways, Taiwan's social, political and economic interests may have been damaged by the electioneering exercise""

That just uses a short view and tries to grab an immediate read. It is like a blind touched an elephant nose and tried to guess what that thing was?

And Taiwan has proved they are competitive in every way for the last fifty years under the threat from those crooked Chinese Communist government. There is no reason not to believe they (people not any elected president) can survive well again.

If history can serve as a mirror and Taiwanese are indeed Chinese (unless they are not (gg)), Chinese people still survive live and well now after all those blunders including but not limited to Culture Revolution, top government received briberies (still live and well today) and fled China, Tienanmen Square incident, Japanese invasion (WWII), Farlun kong problem, SARS, Bird Flu, Asia financial crisis. etc.

PS. A last man standing game is just a game. Do due diligence and know inside out of your investments are not games. Buy low and sell high is the rule.
