There is an entire subculture of religious types *and* anti-religious types parsing every word from the mouths and pens of the Founding Fathers on the topic of religion and state. I used to get sucked into that, but not anymore. It's a tarbaby.

It's irrelevant that the Constitution doesn't contain the buzz words "separation of church and state." We have it de facto and de jure. (Thank you Google for saving me from writing "du jour.") And I am thankful for it.

The thing about "curbing the federal judiciary" really irritates me. Allen Keyes is really big on this. Congress should pass a law that takes away the ability of the Supreme Court to review certain cases, he says. (Edit: I think the only thing on his list is religion.) I say that's nuts. Separation of powers is not something to mess with.
