PoliPundit comments on the Kerry testimony you posted.

Kerry's Testimony

Watching John Kerry's 1971 Senate testimony on C-SPAN made my blood boil. Some observations:

1. if the Bush campaign wants to kill any support Kerry may have among veterans, it should make copies of this video and distribute them to veterans in key states. The text of Kerry's testimony doesn't even begin to give you the full flavor. You have to watch him say the words in order to glean his moralizing, hostile, anti-American tone.

2. Kerry's arrogant self-righteousness is exactly what "anti-war" protesters demonstrate today. Change "Vietnam" to "Iraq" and "Communism" to "Terrorism" and the speech could have been made by an "anti-war" protester in 2004.

3. Kerry's contempt, even hatred, towards America comes through loud and clear. He accuses the US of being the greatest violator of Geneva conventions. He calls Vietnam the "greatest disaster of all times." His speech is relentlessly negative, accusing the US of committing crimes against humanity. Listening to Kerry, one would conclude that America has no admirable qualities.

4. Kerry's speech contains no criticism whatsoever of Communism. In fact, he sarcastically taunts the US government for pursuing a "mystical war on Communism."

5. In typical Kerry fashion, he tries to take every side of the issue. He attacks the US government for both prosecuting the war and not seeing it through.

6. In answer to a question from an obsequious liberal senator, Kerry recommends that the United States "immediately, unilaterally" withdraw from Vietnam.

Kerry's testimony disqualifies him from leading this country. No man who feels so relentlessly hostile towards his own country is equipped to lead it. No man with such a negative view of war can be trusted to prosecute a just war.

I saw a lot of long-hair retro hippies in those pictures from Saturday's demonstrations, but I generally don't see 'em in real life. There's a pretty ecletic mix where I live, and the blue-collar workers tend to be short-haired and buff. :-) Also, they're too busy working to go to demonstrations.

Adding to Gina's observation ("the blue-collar workers tend to be short-haired and buff.") the blue-collars here are actually a 50/50 mix of that and your "long hair and smoked dope" — and, no I won't even mention the USN swabbie I met last week who was espousing Chomsky(!). The words "Go" and "Figure" come to mind. I also won't mention my profound belief that youth is wasted on the young. Nope, not going to mention that one bit at all.
