There are two ways to view the non- combatant population in the territories. The first is that most of them support and aid terrorism, and therefore are not really innocent. The second is that even the innocent are in the position of hostages, whose lives one tries to conserve, but not by giving the malefactors free reign, which only encourages more hostage taking. In the course of stopping criminals, some hostages might be killed or wounded. This should be minimized, but cannot be avoided completely.

As for the terrorists themselves, no special consideration is owed them. Someone who promotes terror, whatever his operational relationship to Hamas, is fair game, even if he is unarmed.

Ever since the Warsaw Ghetto, Jews have been determined to fight back, rather than accept being wantonly killed. Complacency got 6 million Jews slaughtered. What if there had been more guns in the hands of the Jews, to resist being sent to the camps? If you cannot understand that all questions relating to Israel come from the peculiar historical circumstances of its birth, you lack elementary empathy.......

Hello GST,

But when you laugh at people threatening violence and defend posters that consistently excuse and/or promote violence then you are not moderating a thread that objectively discusses foreign policy -- you become an active advocate of self-righteous global violence.

Well, I guess we are not seeing things through the same lenses, GST.

I'll let the record speak for me.

I favor a broad sense of humor, yes even as applied to the darker doings of the day. Imagery is nice too : Suppose my alias is Mosquito, I think it would be fun to "threaten" people with lines like, "Next time I see you in my swamp, I'm going to suck your blood." Literally grim? Well sure but, after all, it's what mosquitos do and that's what makes it funny IMO.

I try to keep a lid on the name calling although I've learned that each poster seems to have a different conception of how the ox is being gored. Such is life...

Thanks for your comments.
