I do not believe that the demise of the regime was guaranteed, but even if it was, our occupation was the one chance to get rid of Saddam without precipitating a civil war that would have destabilized the region. It may not work, but it is, at least, a chance........

Excellent points...Well over a year ago I was saying that our CIA could have more seriously used aggressive covert measures to remove Saddam. The Bushies seemed to want war and they chose the very expensive and risky option (think of the blood, treasure and crediblity we have had to spend so far on this adventure over in Iraq).
