I think Kerry is leaning on "fought for his country" because it's the only advantage he has, or thinks he has.

Cronkheit's suggestion, that Kerry embrace the "L" word, is probably good advice, but Kerry can't take it now, it would be another flip-flop.

I could write Kerry a great speech embracing "liberalism" -- talking about how great liberalism is, and how it's nothing to be ashamed of, but proud of. Etc.

But then, I think of myself as a liberal, in the classic 18th-19th century meaning. I am a John Locke-Thomas Jefferson-Adam Smith liberal. I'd love to see that word resume its true meaning.

One has to wonder whether any of the partisan media will be featuring one or more of the several families that were directly affected by the loss of a son, father, brother, daughter, sister or mother during the Vietnam war who might feel outrage at John Kerry's use of his service in that war for political advantage?
