Remember Phototrac? I think I found the links that says it's Identix inside...

First, the NSW police and Identix... Concerns BRS, Biometric Recognition Systems. BRS was bought by Fingerscan and Identix bought Fingerscan. Check the SEC filings 96/97 time frame for your own DD or take my word for it FWIW...

From a JULY 2003 article: NSW ready for self-service bail reporting

The ABRS was developed jointly by the NSW Police and KAZ Technology Services. It requires minimal equipment at the front counter - mainly a fingerprint sensor from Australian supplier Bio Recognition Systems and a number keypad. It generates a printed proof-of-attendance receipt and, while designed for self-service, can also instruct bailees to seek a police officer.

This story also talks about Phototrac being incorporated in the system:

"We do (face recognition) in a controlled environment with good lighting. It works on a series of measurements on the face," Rooke says. Phototrac can match surveillance images with the mug shots of 350,000 people in the database.

"It is proving extremely accurate," Rooke says.

Phototrac is likely to incorporate digital images, since digital cameras are common in charge rooms. "It's just one more piece of a very big picture we are building," Rooke says.

From a Biometrictech story: [January 06, 2004] Australia's Largest Law Enforcement Organization Selects ImageWare Systems For Biometrics And Intranet-based Investigative Capabilities

IW is identified as the Company producing the system for the NSW police system.

Under the terms of the agreement, ImageWare will provide a browser-based investigative solution with biometric capabilities that will enhance the ability of the NSW Police to identify suspects by creating photo lineups and mug books, as well as conducting facial recognition searches on mug shots stored in their current ImageWare booking solution-all via the secure police WAN / Intranet
