Intifada 2 was not a result of the Temple Mount incident. It occurred when Barak offered about 95% of what Arafat professed to want at Wye River, under pressure from Clinton, but left the status of Jerusalem and its suburbs for further negotiations. It was a result of appeasement, and the perception of the Palestinians that if Barak's negotiating posture was so weak, and he was under such pressure from the Clinton Administration, that riots would achieve the rest.

The rest is just cynical platitudes.......

He did this since he visited Temple Mountain at the beginning of his political career. This was the initial provocation who led to Intifada2

It served as a pretext for "Intifada2", but I don't think its reasonable to think that the situation would be peaceful if it wasn't for Sharon's visit.
