All the parties can do is continue to bloody each other until somehow, someway, the whole thing blows up when Israel suffers a WMD attack, and retaliates in a truly catastrophic manner.

C2,
Don't you think a wmd attack against Israel will be catastrophic?
I do agree with your premise that a lot more blood must be spilled, but for Israel to wait for even larger attacks by Hamas is sheer folly. The gladiators are in the ring. The best for Israel is to fight to the death now while they may have an advantage. I could not advise them to wait until Hamas has deadlier weapons.

Perhaps the Israeli government assumption is that Islamism in the ME is losing ground and now is the time to attack Hamas while its possible allies are under pressure. Personally, I think this a good assumption.

Furthermore, I think the Israelis would be well advised to attack Hamas root and branch and not just clip the crown of the tree, and in concert with that, kill Arafat's thugs as well, and let the Palestinians be free to come up with a more criminal-free leadership.

A decision that peace is impossible, that the increase in radical Islam throughout the ME will prevent any settlement, that the two state solution is a chimera, and that therefore it's time to do what should have been done a long time ago, regardless of the consequences. This is the only way that I can see any logic behind killing Yassin.
