I think the reasons for getting involved in Kosovo is not the same as for Iraq. Hence your statement quoted above does not hold true.

I'm afraid US public opinion was, and still is, divided already....

I think we have to wait until the elections to really see how divided the country is. We were divided in presidential choice in 2000, but that was more of an indifference towards to candidates that seemed similar at the time. Plus prosperity makes people lethargic when it comes to voting. But this is a completely different ballgame. I don't think the election will be close personally.
