Don't forget that he also was ultimately responsible for getting the Medicare actuary fired if the actuary disclosed the truth about the actual cost of the program before the vote took place (which passed by only one vote, and that was with a lot of arm-twisting). The reality about the cost overrun-- over $100 billion-- has made even a few Republicans start to turn on W.

If, after all these gaps in credibility, W were to be re-elected, I would be very troubled at what it points to: a significant diminishment of accountability and a general acceptance of deceit as public policy.
