All pretty normal. The thing with the MILF dropping support for JI doesn't really mean much. The MILF leadership has not been on great terms with the JI people for a long time. The MILF leadership also has only very limited control over their own people and much of their own territory, and there probably won't be any significant threat to JI activity. They may move some people out, or more likely just lie low for a while.

The peace talks are a big non-event, necessary to keep the US money flowing. They will probably come up with a grand and dysfunctional agreement. The base issues are pretty much irreconcilable, but they need to show something.

They pull in low-level Abu Sayyaf people from time to time, and the occasional leader. You never hear what happens to them, and I suspect that a fair number end up back out again. The group hasn't done anything high profile for a while, and has largely broken up into the usual armed gangs run by the usual criminal thugs. It was never much more than a loose coalition.

The NPA are still around, and actually exercise some control over a fair bit of countryside, mainly in places so unprofitable that nobody in Government really cares what goes on there. The ideology is beyond anachronistic, but they hang on. The leaders are still as red as a baboon's backside. Most of the followers haven't a clue what the leaders are talking about, but they figure anybody shooting at the government must be ok.

Some things don't change....
