The response to the first paragraph is because Bush & Co took their "eye off the ball" wrt to Al Qaeda, while simultaneously greatly amplifying it's significance, there is no longer any easy way to kill this organization. Rather than degrading it's capacity, they have enhanced it. OBL went from an obscure fanatic living in a cave to a prophet that foretold America's invasion of the ummah. Al Qaeda went from a small hierarchical organization located in a backwater country where OBL and his deputy had to approve all of the important decisions, to a large decentralized network umbrella organization that has more heads than Hydra. Every Islamic extremist now wants to be affiliated with Al Qaeda. And our actions make the pool of extremists grow ever larger. The second paragraph is addressed by the last sentence. What we've provided in Iraq is a recruitment tool and training ground for terrorists. JMO lurqer
