It's true that he could still accept a position by declaring that he is not doing so for himself, but at the insistance of his President and for the good of the American people, blah blah blah ...

But I don't see what else he can do to show he isn't interested in a position. What with book royalties and speaking fees, he'll be filthy rich in a year, he certainly won't need the money.
