"My understanding is a Zionist is someone who believes that Israel has a right to exist and the movement that pulled for statehood in 1948. Do you believe there is some other definition?"

I believe your definition is a partial definition. I believe that in addition to your definition, Zionism's goals include an Israel that is as large as Israel was at one time in the old testament. Ben Gurion was furious that he didn't receive all the land in the Mandate.
I believe that Zionism might mean a jewish state with controls on the number of non jews. That might be why there was a concerted effort to drive out the inhabitants in 47/48. That might be why Count Bernotte, before the United Nations could act on any of his was assassinated by, in the Israeli official view, the Stern Gang, one of several terrorist organizations whose activities had become more open since the end of the Mandate.

That might be why the Palestinians today might believe that terrorism works since it was so successfully introduced by Zionists. Of course, now that 77% of the land has be taken, Zionists would argue that since I got mine, terrorism is now wrong.

>>Does it mean anyone who is pro-Israel is a Zionist in your opinion?<<

First, Israel has been a Zionist state for decades. And its leading and most popular party Likud party today is a Zionist party. A stanch supporter for Israel's current policy can be regarded as a main stream Zionist (unless this person has no solid understanding of the issue and being led or misled to be a supporter). A stanch supporter for the current Zionist government and declares he/she is a Zionist is a straightforward Zionist. Those who have the same stanch attitude but keep avoiding declaration of his/her status are shady or covert ones. Which one do you belong to, BTW?

>>My understanding is a Zionist is someone who believes that Israel has a right to exist and the movement that pulled for statehood in 1948.<<

That's all for your understanding for Zionism? How about the right to expand and the Jewish settlements on the Palestinian and other neighbor’s lands, which the Zionists have been doing for decades?

In case you don’t know or you pretend you don’t know, let’s start looking a couple of related and important sections in the governing and the most popular Zionist Likud Party Platform, So we can get a little more idea about the current mainstream Zionism:

>>The Jewish communities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza are the realization of Zionist values. Settlement of the land is a clear expression of the unassailable right of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel and constitutes an important asset in the defense of the vital interests of the State of Israel. The Likud will continue to strengthen and develop these communities and will prevent their uprooting.<<

While Israel is expanding on the Arab lands by force and bulldozers, the Arabs must keep a peaceful manner:

>>The Arab states' desire for peace will be measured by their efforts to prevent hostile activities by terrorist organizations from their territory and to dismantle the infrastructure of the organizations. This includes closing their headquarters and preventing economic and political warfare and all hostile acts during the negotiations.<<

In deed, we have seen that the Likud Party, with the strong supports from the mainstream Zionists and IDF, has been doing a great job base on its Platform for years.

This is just the beginning of what you started on the discussion of the Zionist issue. If you wish, let’s continue this with facts and reasoning. Others’ joining is highly desirable.
