Rebooting problem- Thank you all very much. I had quite a few replies here and on SI. Hope this posts OK

This is what I did as a result of the distilled advice:-

1. I got Norton Anti Virus. I was using McAffee unitl a couple of weeks ago when the problem first arose. Whatever it was denied me ability to do a virus scan using my McAffee so I tried to call them for support and got nowhere so I bought and installed Norton. That allowed me to scan and I scaneed and it said the computer was clean.

A couple fo weeks later and it re-appeared with a vengance. Thats when I posted the day before yesterday.

2. I eventually got Norton to scan and it said the comuter was clean. Shortly after that it rebooted.

3. I got it going again and went to Symantec and found the removal tool for the Blaster worm. It downloaded easily and very quickly and I ran it without any problem. It said that it didn't find the Blaster on my computer.

4. The problem seems to have gone away since I ran the Blaster removal despite it saying that I didn't have it.

What I have learned:-

1. Most of what I did I got from advice received here and on SI.

2. Trying to get support form McAffee or Norton on the phone because you are desperate and worried is a waste of time.

3. Norton seems to be OK other than if you want to speak to anyone.

4. The best place to get help, by far the best, is here on this thread the QCOM thread and on the QCOM and SNDK threads on SI and the buid your own PC thread on SI.

You not only get help you get it fast and you get at least I did a good deal of relief and comfrot from the messages you get from fellow posters.

I have no idea whether this nuisance will reoccur but the comfort I got was wonderful. Anyonme who has a catastrophic disk failure and lost data knows that sickening feeling as the realization dawns that you have lost your work.

Thanks to all once again,

L
