The entire mess is the silly result of the hubris of so many people. Nixon orders the FBI to spy on Kerry for opposing the war in Vietnam, as if this were some sort of democracy where opposing views were permitted. FBI agents, who could not determine if were day or night without consulting their superiors, take lots of pictures while posing as reporters in crew-cuts, white shirts and thick gum shoes. Now some files are missing. Is it the librarian looking for a scapegoat for their lack of filing skills? Is it another burglary directed by the White House? Were the files purloined by an obsessed fan? This is all so hilarious. You couldn't make this stuff up if your tried.
