inside the belt way is a very strange environment. They all live in their world.. The rest of us are outsiders.. The beltway knows best. It is a war of smear on both sides .

Clark appears to have done well for himself but lost the upgrade to next higher position he always wanted in Washington. I expect he yelled fire too many times and when he offered advice often it was not detailed , short term action vs long term action.
He is a person who never grew with the increase terror in the world. His job got bigger but Clark's ideas didn't catch up.
Now he is in a position to be a player in the game once again. He seems to be enjoying it.

Clarke was demoted in that most valuable of Washington currency - face time with the President. Now, was he angry purely for the sake of the policies he wanted to push, or for his own pride? You decide. But it's a motive.

Who knows. I think all the talk about motives is a deliberate Bush strategy to (a) change the subject and (b) confuse the public. Since the 9-11 business should not be politics as usual, I find that strategy objectionable, at best.
